Instead, follow the packed snow trail at the edge of the forest and lake on the south side of Dream Lake. The junction to Lake Haiyaha is located just before reaching Dream Lake but the trail marker is buried in snow. Continue along the trail for another 0.1 miles to reach Dream Lake, where dramatic Hallett Peak and the surprisingly rocky ridge of Flattop Mountain surround the alpine lake. Once past this narrow section of the trail, stop at the Nymph Lake Overlook at 0.9 miles, an open area on a large boulder where views of Longs Peak, Nymph Lake, Sprague Lake and Lumpy Ridge can be enjoyed. ![]() On these days, take the previously mentioned winter trail to avoid dangerous conditions. This section of the trail is very narrow and can be prone to avalanches if the snowpack is unstable. The standard route goes around the north side of the lake through the forest but in winter, the trail follows the north edge of the lake and connects with the trail near the boulders at the northwest side.įollow this path as it steeply climbs along the rock outcropping. This will be difficult to do if there is a fresh snowfall in the area but it bypasses the steep, narrow section of trail above the lake. The shorter winter route is to stay on the left side of the lake and follow the snow-packed trail into the forest and up to the designated trail. There are two ways to follow the trail around Nymph Lake in winter. Covered in lily pads in summer, this now frozen, snow-covered lake can be crossed for various views of Longs Peak to the south and Hallett Peak to the west. In a half mile, the trail reaches Nymph Lake.
